About the Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers began in Minnesota in 1947 as a member of the NBL and became a part of the NBA in 1949.  The team moved to Los Angeles in 1960.  The team won the NBA title in 1948-49, 1949-50, 1951-52, 1952-53, 1953-54, 1971-72, 1979-80, 1981-82, 1984-85, 1986-87, 1987-88, 1999-2000, 2000-01 and 2001-02. Notable alumni include Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson,  Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy and Jerry West. The Lakers play in the Pacific Division.
