About the Boston Celtics

The Celtics began in 1946 as part of the Basketball Association of America and merged into the NBA in 1949. The team has won the NBA Title more than any other team including the years 1956-57, 1958-59, 1959-60, 1960-61, 1961-62, 1962-63, 1963-64, 1964-65, 1965-66, 1967-68, 1968-69, 1973-74, 1975-76, 1980-81, 1983-84, 1985-86.  Notable Alumni include Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Kevin McHale, and Larry Bird. The Celtics play in the Atlantic Division.
